Blind Brook Challenge Teams Advance To State Finals

RYE BROOK, N.Y. -- Blind Brook students showed off their brains and creativity at the New York Destination Imagination Eastern Regional Tournament in March. Five out of the nine Blind Brook teams that competed now advance to the state finals.

The Blind Brook Boomerangs and the Lightning IDeas from Blind Brook Middle School will compete in the Destination Imagination state finals on April 13.

Destination Imagination is an educational program that has student teams from elementary and secondary schools solve open-ended challenges. Teams compete in one of five challenges: In the Zone (technical challenge), Wind Visible (science challenge), In Disguise (fine arts challenge), Change in Realitee (improvisational challenge) and Twist-O-Rama (structural challenge). Teams that place in the top two at the regional tournament qualify to move on to the state finals.

The New Kids on the Brook team from Bruno M. Ponterio Ridge Street School came in first in the Wind Visible Challenge. The team consisted of Sean Keilman, Michael Lieberman, Aidan O'Neil, Matthew Pariser, Michelle Saunders and Wyatt Steinthal. The Dream Team came in second in the Twist-O-Rama Challenge. The team was made up of Abe Baker-Butler, Ashley Drazka, Emily Faustino, Pen Glick John Saghir, Nikhil Sharma and Alex Weis.

At Blind Brook Middle School, the Blind Brook Boomerangs came in first in the Twist-O-Rama Challenge. Team members were Jarred Bassett, Samuel George, Justin Levine, Ness Low, Ethan Richards and Arkin Satija. The Lighting IDeas came in first in the In the Zone Challenge. That team consisted of Winslow Bullard, Thomas Chason, Nikhil Jaiswal, Isabel Steinberg, Ryan Vogt and Bryan Wei.

Representing Blind Brook High School is 2 Kids, 1 Ski, which came in first in the Twist-O-Rama Challenge. The team includes Zach Bellin, Benjamin Chason, Lance Goldman, Josh Handler, Noah Reichman and Andrew Shaw.

The 2013 New York Affiliate Tournament will be held April 13 in Endicott.
