Officers were called to a Treat Street apartment complex in West Haven on Thursday afternoon, when the father of a 4-year-old and 2-year-old were reported injured. First responders found the two boys in their apartment and were treated and hospitalized.

The 4-year-old boy died, while his brother is expected to survive. No arrests have been made, though the incident began when the two were left in an overheated car, according to multiple reports.

Five Connecticut children have died in hot cars since 1997, according to Kids and Cars. More than two dozen have died nationally this year.

The incident remains under police investigation. Anyone with information has been asked to call West Haven Police Det. Jonathan Suraci by calling (203) 937-3927.
