On June 3, a mastiff was found roaming in Bruce Park in Greenwich, displaying signs and symptoms consistent with having been abused, police said.

The investigation into the abused dog by Greenwich Animal Control found that the dog had been adopted from an adoption center in Connecticut in May by local resident Christian Dilworth.

Police said that when contacted about his dog, Dilworth claimed that it had died. He then provided investigators with misleading and contradictory information about the circumstances of the dog’s alleged death.

The investigation led to a warrant that was obtained by the Greenwich Police Department charging Dilworth with failure to comply with dog ownership requirements, illegal release of a domestic animal, cruelty to an animal, false statement, and interfering with an officer.

Dilworth turned himself in at the Greenwich Police Department on Aug. 16. He was unable to post a $25,000 bond and was placed in a cell block pending an appearance in Stamford Superior Court on Friday, Aug. 17.
