PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- A long-term construction project will force the partial closure of eastbound Putnam Avenue (Route 982C) between Main Street (Route 1) and Riverdale Avenue starting Friday, according to the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT).
The project, which will force one lane of the roadway to close until Dec. 23 (weather permitting), and will require police control of traffic in the area, according to the DOT.
Drivers are urged to follow all street signs and traffic signals and to exercise caution in the work zone.
Authorities also reminded drivers Thursday that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.
Under the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
