Following a brief search for his parents or guardians, police confirmed that a man in his 20s who was found alone in the rain on Weber Drive earlier this week has been safely returned to his loved ones following a brief scare.
On Wednesday night, a man, believed to be between 20 and 25 years old with severe Down syndrome wearing a cream-colored hooded shirt over a Chicago Bulls NBA jersey, black basketball shorts and gray sneakers was found wandering around in the on Weber Drive near Midland Avenue at approximately 9 p.m., police said.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the area when a concerned resident contacted the department believing the man to be in distress. Police said the man had no forms of ID and was uncommunicative, unable to speak with paramedics and could not articulate his name or where he lives.
Police took the man to the hospital for evaluation, and began the search for his guardians. After reaching out to multiple nearby police departments in search of a "missing person" report, officers finally succeeded in finding his family, and the man was swiftly and safely returned to their care.
