RYE BROOK, N.Y. A Rye Brook residents run-in with a phone scam artist turned hostile on Tuesday, according to Rye Brook Police.
Police Lt. Eugene Matthews said a woman told police that a man, posing as a computer specialist, began threatening her after she saw through his charade.
According to the police report, the woman said the man, who she believes to be of Indian descent, told her, I know where you are, and, Im following you before she hung up the phone. Matthews said the woman, using Caller ID, called back the man in an attempt to identify him but was instead routed to a Pound Ridge insurance company.
The secretary of the company told the woman that their phone number had been hijacked and she has been receiving multiple calls lately from area residents.
The following incidents were also reported by police:
Vehicle Impounded: A 41-year-old Rye woman was issue four violations and saw her Land Rover impounded after Rye Brook Police discovered during a traffic stop that the womans license was expired, her registration invalid and her car uninspected. The woman was issued an additional violation for an obstructed license plate.
