Rye Shop Owners Clear Windows For Painting

RYE, N.Y. -- The windows of Joe Mancuso's bagel shop were clean and clear Wednesday, but come Saturday they will fill up with paintings of ghosts, ghouls and graves as children unleash their creativity for Rye's annual Halloween Window Painting. "I think it's a great idea," said Mancuso, a Rye Brook resident who has owned the Upper Crust Bagel Co. of Rye for three months and will be participating in Saturday's event for the first time. "It's something for the kids that involves the community." Participating businesses along Purchase Street will offer up their store windows as canvasses for the children of Rye to decorate with Halloween-themed art Saturday. In addition to the window painting, there will live entertainment and refreshments from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A rain date has been set for Oct. 30. Mancuso said he will also have some extra treats for the kids. "I'm excited," he said. "I can't wait to see what they come up with."
