PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Anthony Guglielmo was stabbed to death early Sunday morning in his home, and it was around that time that neighbor Alice Quinlan said she was woken up by a loud noise in her backyard.
"I can't describe it. I was so scared, I didn't want to leave my bed," said Quinlan, who lives directly behind Guglielmo's house at 235 Mortimer St. "Maybe someone had run through my yard and slammed into the wall."
Police found Guglielmo, 54, lying face down in a pool of his own blood, a single stab wound to his chest. His 14-year-old daughter had called 9-1-1 at 5:25 a.m., saying an intruder had broken into the house and attacked her father.
A bloody kitchen knife was recovered in another room and a trash can was found pushed up to a window with a cut screen, according to police. Forensic evidence showed that Guglielmo's death occurred several hours before the phone call.
His daughter has been identified as "a person of interest" said Port Chester Police Chief Joseph Krzeminski. No other suspects have been identified.
Guglielmo, a plumber, had been living alone with his daughter. The mother, who is divorced from Guglielmo and living in New York City, has taken custody of the girl and was present while police interviewed her.
At this time, no charges have been filed. Krzeminski said that police had previously responded to incidents involving Guglielmo and his daughter though he could not specify any details.
Krzeminski said the neighborhood was canvassed, but Quinlan said she was never questioned. Whether or not the noise she heard early Sunday morning had any connection with Guglielmo's murder has yet to be determined.
