Letter: Enough is Enough in Port Chester

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - The Daily Voice accepts signed, original letters to the editor. Letters may be e-mailed to

To the Editor:

It is not bad enough that the people of Port Chester are forced to sit through a six-hour reality TV show if they want to watch village proceedings.

It is not bad enough that, after six years in office, the mayor puts in place an “amnesty program” that forces law-abiding home owners to pay thousands of dollars to make up for the mistakes this village has made year after year while the rich landlords responsible for the overcrowding go untouched.

It is not bad enough that we have to watch former building department and highway department personnel steal from us and get away scot free.

It is not bad enough that our taxes are among the highest in Westchester County relative to the value of our homes.

It is not bad enough to hear from our village auditors that our village is fast becoming broke.

This weekend we saw very clearly the results of six years of talk, talk, talk and more talk.

It is not bad enough that, after six years, our Mayor has finally discovered that brining the streets before a snow storm helps to retard the freezing process and facilitates snow removal. What else hasn’t he learned while being a member of the New York Conference of Mayors and going to all those meetings in Albany on taxpayer dollars? Again, he’s late to the game.

For anyone that drove around Port Chester after the storm, the stark contrast between the state of our roads and the roads plowed by our neighboring communities Rye Brook and Rye was so laughable I wanted to cry.

Here in Port Chester our roads were covered with snow that eventually turned to ice. As soon as one ventured out on either side Rye or Rye Brook the roads amazingly were all black top, no snow!!

The people of Port Chester have an opportunity to put an end to this madness. On March 19 they can vote to replace our do-nothing Mayor and put in place a real leader who will put an end to the reality TV show and an end to the endless talk, talk, talk, talk, and more talk.

Neil Pagano, a lifelong resident of Port Chester, will take full responsibility for our village, our community, our finances and our roads.  He won’t make excuses; he will provide the leadership that Port Chester so desperately needs.
