Currently, under hospice care, Arevalo, 63, is quickly losing the fight and is anxious over the cost it is having on his family.
He has lived and worked in Port Chester for more than 35 years, including years as the maintenance manager for UST Tobacco in Greenwich until they closed, and then for years at Avalon.
"Every day that goes by he gets weaker and weaker," said his daughter Jennifer Arevalo. "At this point, we don't know how much time Julian has left with us on earth."
The journey has been very hard on his family, she said.
"Midnight emergency runs to the hospital, sleepless nights, and the inevitable outcome," she added.
To help ease some of the stress, friends and family have set up a GoFundMe page to in order to try and raise more than $20,000 needed to cover the cost of his care and other financial obligations associated with his illness.
"We are asking our family, friends, and people with kind hearts to help out in this difficult time," his daughter said. " All we can do now is show how much we love and care for him."
Arevalo is being cared for by his wife, Emma Arevalo, his daughters Jennifer and Ingrid Arevalo who currently still live in Port Chester and his son Roberto Arevalo, with his four grandchildren work hard to keep his spirits up.
All of the funds raised from the GoFundMe page will be used for Arevalo's medical bills, funeral, and burial expenses.
