PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- The first Chucky Melillo Softball Classic will be held Saturday in memory of the Port Chester firefighter who died last year.
Melillo was a lifelong resident of Port Chester and a captain in the Port Chester Fire Department. He was also a captain of the Westchester Vengeance semi-professional football team, and worked as an emergency medical technician for Empress Emergency Medical Services in Yonkers and Harrison Emergency Medical Services. He died in October at the age of 27 after sustaining an injury playing football.
Sixteen co-ed teams will compete in the softball classic and family fun day Saturday at Port Chester High School. The first pitch will be at 8 a.m. and the tournament will run until one team is declared the winner. There will also be food, ice cream, amusement games and kids' activities. All proceeds will benefit the William Charles Melillo Scholarship fund. The rain date for the event will be Sunday.
