Hurricane Irene Strikes Port Chester
Hurricane Irene wreaked havoc on most of the Eastern seaboard in late August, knocking out power and causing millions of dollars in damages. New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency before the storm even hit.
Trick or snow? The Halloween snowstorm left many Westchester and Connecticut residents without power for days, and Port Chester was no different. More than 58,000 Westchester residents lost power, a small portion of which reside in Port Chester and Rye Brook.
Needless to say there were some strange storms that hit Westchester County in the past year. Between Hurricane Irene and the Halloween Nor'easter, thousands of homes lost power for days at a time.
However, the effects on Port Chester and Rye Brook were mild by comparison. Hurricane Irene only brought minor flooding, and only 2,000 homes recieved power outages, the bulk of which lasted only a few days.
As for the Halloween Snowstorm, it was more of a shock then anything else. The storm resulted in a few downed power lines and a little less than a 1,000 power outages between the two villages.
