Heavy Rain, Strong Winds, Downed Trees, Power Lines Snarl Morning Commute

Periods of heavy rain, combined with strong winds, resulted in delays throughout the area during the Monday morning commute with several downed trees and power lines being reported.

A crash that blocked the left lane caused stop-and-go delays on southbound I-684 at Hardscrabble Road near the Northern Westchester/Putnam border, with delays to I-84.

Thirty-minute delays were reported on the northbound Sprain Brook Parkway after a crash blocked the right lane at Route 100B, with traffic backed up to Tuckahoe Road.

A stretch of Route 119 in Greenburgh is blocked between Taxter Road and South Goodwin Avenue due to fallen power cables with traffic backed up to Old White Plains Road.

There were heavy delays on eastbound Route 35 after a crash at Cherry Street in Katonah, with delays back to Route 100.

A fallen tree blocked a stretch of southbound Route 120 between Bear Ridge Road and Nannahagan Road in Pleasantville.

Moderate to heavy rain will continue until early Monday afternoon on a breezy day with a thunderstorm possible. The high temperature will rise to the mid-50s but wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour will make it feel colder.

An average of about 2 to 3 inches of rainfall is expected, with locally higher amounts.

A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for Southern Westchester until 2 p.m. Monday.

There could be scattered showers Monday night and Tuesday morning. Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with a high around 50 degrees.
