Port Chester Resident On Team That Places 2nd At Usta Championship

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- A Hawthorne-based team of athletes has placed second place in the United States Tennis Association's (USTA) 40 and over 9.0 Mixed League National Championships.

The team, representing the USTA's Eastern Section, made it to the championship matches, losing to a team from Columbus, Ga. 2-1.

The team is composed of Cesar Gonzalez, Yonkers; Peter Snell, South Salem; Kimelle McCarthy Monroe, Conn.; Olga Harvey, Port Chester; Victoria Madonna, Hurley, N.Y.; Kevin Madonna, Hurley; and Joseph Cramer, Darien, Conn.

The team, representing the USTA's Eastern Section, made it to the championship matches, losing to a team from Columbus, Ga. 2-1.

The Westchester County team had previously advanced by winning their round-robin flight contests on Friday and Saturday.

The league, which has experienced significant growth in the past 30 years, is the world’s largest recreational tennis league.
