Wrestling Season Opens With Tony Carlucci Tournament

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – The 2012-13 high school wrestling season will begin Friday with the first day of the annual Tony Carlucci Dual-Meet Tournament at Purchase College.

Every Saturday, with the exception of Dec. 22, there will be a wrestling tournament in Section 1.

Wrestling will begin at 4 p.m. Friday and resume at 9 a.m. Saturday as Port Chester coach Greg Domestico welcomes two-time defending champion Fox Lane, Somers, New Rochelle, Harrison, Iona Prep, Mamaroneck, Edgemont, Croton, Eastchester, Scarsdale and Monroe-Woodbury.

The teams will be grouped into pools of five with each wrestling each other. Following pool wrestling, the teams will meet in the placing matches.

Fox Lane has defeated Monroe-Woodbury the past two years for the title.

Rye will host the Bernie Miller Dual-Meet tournament beginning 9 a.m. Saturday. The field is comprise of John Jay-Cross River, Horace  Greeley, Hackley, Hendrick Hudson, Pleasantville, Lakeland/Panas, Beacon and Rye.

Rye coach Matt Beatty will have four-team pools with each team wrestling five matches.
