Fourth grader Xavier Massey sat on the bleachers by the baseball fields in Port Chester's Lyon Park eating a pack of sunflower seeds Saturday afternoon after playing two games in the morning.
"I like watching the other teams play," said Xavier, 10, whose team "Lockdown" won their first game against "Xerox" nine to five, but lost their second against "Post Road" five to seven.
The little league season started in late April and will end this week. Xavier said he will miss the feel of dirt beneath his cleats and the thump of a baseball hitting the inside of his leather glove when he catches a fly ball, but he is looking forward to other activities this summer.
He recently read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and plans to get at least through the next two books of the Harry Potter book series while he's out of school. Xavier said he hasn't seen any of the movies yet, and doesn't intend to until he's finished all of the books.
"I really like all the spells and how they can fly around on brooms," Xavier said.
He'll also go to a summer day camp at Columbus Park, where he loves to play board games like Monopoly and Connect Four.
Xavier still has one week of class left at Thomas A. Edison School, but said he doesn't have much homework, which gives him plenty of time to read and watch baseball games.
