The Panthers won the first Section 1 title in program history Thursday night and beat defending state champion Bronxville to do it, pulling out a 9-7 win that also ended Bronxville's run of four straight Class C sectional titles.

Pleasantville lost to Bronxville the last two years in the sectional final.

Josh Della Puca had three goals and two assists for the Panthers, who jumped out to a 3-1 lead after one quarter but fell behind 6-5 after three quarters after the game was tied 4-4 at the half.

Siena College-bound junior defenseman Jack Drillock scored what proved to be the game-winner, a goal that came in transition early in the fourth, putting the Panthers in front 7-6.

But Drillock's defensive play may have been the key to the game. Drillock held Johns Hopkins University-bound senior Henry Grass, the all-time leading scorer in Section 1 history, without a point.

Brian Reda had three goals for Pleasantville.

Bronxville's Ara Atayian had two goals and one assist and Michael Crawford also had two goals.

Pleasantville has a bye from the first round of the state tournament before meeting the Section 9/Section 2 first-round winner at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 30 at Lakeland High School in Shrub Oak in the state quarterfinals.
