Irvington Tops Blind Brook in Warnock Tourney

IRVINGTON, N.Y. – The Irvington Bulldogs opened their 33rd Annual William Warnock Memorial Basketball Tournament Thursday, rolling over Blind Brook 56-24 in the opening game of the event that continues Friday with boys games and Saturday with championship games.

Irvington (1-0) will meet Ardsley (1-0), the winner of the opening game, Saturday at 8 p.m. in the championship final. Blind Brook (0-1) will meet Dobbs Ferry (0-1), which lost to Ardsley, in a 4 p.m. consolation game on Saturday.

Alexis Martins led the Bulldogs with 19 points, Brittni Lai added 14 and Marley Giddins had 11 to pace the winners.

“We know Ardsley very well and play with their best player on travel team,” Alexis Martins said, referencing “best player,” Toni Pilla. “We didn’t play as well as we wanted to today. We have to finish our shots better and play better defense.”

Blind Brook hustled on defense and made things difficult for the Bulldogs in the first half and trailed by just seven points, 22-15 at intermission. The Bulldogs broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring the Trojans 22-4.

Leah Saliba led the Trojans with 14 points and Shannon Reddy added five.
