Iona Prep Football Player In Running For 'Heart Of A Giant' Award

Iona Prep High School defensive back Malkelm Morrison from Stamford is committed to the game of football and improving his performance, which has put him in the running for USA Football's 2017 Heart of a Giant award.

The Heart of a Giant award recognizes high school athletes who inspire greatness on and off the field. Players are nominated for demonstrating characteristics like commitment, character, teamwork, dedication and will. Morrison, a senior at Iona Prep in New Rochelle, N.Y., has been nominated to represent his school for the tri-state area. Voting is open to move him on to the next round in the competition.

Morrison is one of 10 nominees for Week 3, and the nominee who receives the most votes from the public will be named the Week 3 finalist. A winner will be announced at noon on Monday, Oct. 16, and you can vote once per day. Finalists will then make a video showcasing why the have the Heart of a Giant. The finalist videos will be reviewed by USA Football, Hospital for Special Surgery and the New York Giants, who will select a grand prize winner.

Finalists will receive a $1,500 equipment grant for their high school football programs. The grand prize winner will receive a $5,000 grant, and will be given their award during a ceremony on field at a New York Giants home game.
