PORT CHESTER, N.Y. Harrison came into its girls basketball game Tuesday with archrival Port Chester with a sense of purpose.
The Huskies were not pleased with their previous performance against their other archrival, Rye. Prior to that, the Huskies lost to undefeated Tappan Zee during Christmas break.
We had a bad game, senior guard Jenna Webb said. We felt we did not play to our fullest potential. We also lost to Tappan Zee, which is one of the best teams in Rockland County. We played a good game against them and felt we had a strong effort.
Harrison came out with intensity and focus, took control of the game early and was never in danger in a 57-31 victory over Port Chester.
Webb, along with Alyx Scapperotti, Ashley Eklund and Kyle Lefkowitz had eight points apiece as Harrison improved to 5-5.
Harrison led by 10 points after the first quarter and 15 at the half.
Getting this win was very important for us because we had lost a couple of games in a row, Webb said. This win gave us a confidence boost and let us know that we are a good basketball team.
D'Angela Covington paced Port Chester with a game-high 14 points and she also had 10 rebounds. LeAndra Harris finished with eight points and eight assists.
