Blind Brook Uses Size to Control Sleepy Hollow

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Blind Brook’s Brennan Schaenman was at least three inches taller than every player on the court for Sleepy Hollow on Tuesday.

He used that size to record a double-double and help his team earn a 50-39 win over the Horsemen in the second boys’ challenge game at the Slam Dunk Tournament at the Westchester County Center.

“He’s big,” Blind Brook coach Michael Welsh said. “He’s probably the biggest kid in Class B.”

Welsh said he pushes Schaenman to use his 6’7” body to his advantage. The junior had 12 points and 12 rebounds on Tuesday.

The Trojans’ Antoine Saliba, who led his team with 16 points, was named MVP of the game. Welsh said the award was well deserved.

“He’s been the foundation of our program for a long time,” Welsh said. “It’s so nice having a kid you can rely on.”

Senior forward Harley Falasca led all scorers with 17 points. The second best scorer for the Horsemen on Tuesday was senior guard Freddie Bertrand, who added eight points.

Blind Brook led 25-16 at the half and stretched that lead to 37-23 at the end of the third quarter. The Trojans shot 37.7 percent from the field while the Horsemen only made 12 of 50 shots for a 24 percent success rate.

Blind Brook also outrebounded Sleepy Hollow, 43-32.
