Singer Robbie Hart rocks the Port Chester High School stage as the drama club presents its spring musical.
In the movie, Sandler was a wedding singer in the 1980s and Drew Barrymore played a waitress named Julia with whom he fell in love.
The show opened on Thursday, April 12.
There are two more 7 p.m. shows on Friday and Saturday, April 14 and 15 in the PCHS auditorium.
PCHS theater students are getting plenty of laughs and applause for their incredible rock-based play about love, music and weddings. Get ready for crazy hair, sharp blazers and a whole lot of singing. With a rocking cast and crew of drama club crooners and newbies, this year’s musical is bound to be a surefire hit.
In the movie version, "Somebody Kill Me," and "I Wanna Grow Old With You,'' were some of the musical favorites.
Audiences are transported to the 1980s as they enter the PCHS lobby lined with psychedelic posters and wedding tables.
They meet the play’s protagonist, Robbie Hart, who gets stood up at the altar. He meets Julia, a young woman whose wedding he helps plan. As he falls in love with her, he attempts to win her over before she gets married.
“The play offers up a rad new score that does for the 80s what ‘Hairspray’ did for the 60s,” said PCHS teacher and producer Stephanie Darrow. “Robbie is just the type of tortured artist underdog we will all be rooting for. The messages of holding tight to aspirations and never letting the fire of passions and interests fade are illuminated throughout this great musical.”
