Led by JFK School Principal Judy Diaz, the teachers have embarked on a new initiative. The result? Why I Teach “speech bubbles” are on view in each of the school’s three buildings and shared on Twitter and other social media.
On Monday, Karen Magee of West Harrison, a former Harrison school teacher and president of the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), spent the day at JFK. Her visit was prompted by a school-wide professional development activity centered around the #whyiteach campaign. Drawn to JFK by the teachers’ posts, Magee toured all three JFK buildings, creating her own #whyiteach speaking bubbles at each site.
The #whyiteach movement was initiated by Teacher2Teacher whose social media campaign includes a heart-warming short video that features educators from across the country, including Ann Rose Santoro, staff developer for the Port Chester-Rye Union Free School District.
