Six Teachers Awarded Tenure in Blind Brook

RYE BROOK, N.Y. - The Blind Brook Board of Education awarded tenure to six High School and Middle School teachers at its meeting Monday evening.

"Blind Brook has always been about great teachers; I think it's sometimes easy to forget," Board of Education member Jeff Diamond said. "It always comes down to the talent and commitment of teachers in the classroom. People want to send their kids to our schools because we have great teachers."

The six teachers included Middle School English teacher Abby Schwittek, Middle School guidance counselor Amanda Arzt, High School writing teacher Margarete Goett, Middle School social studies teacher Ellen Kapsiotis, High School history and economics teacher Marko Markolovic, and Middle School math teacher Colleen McCarty-Pylilo.

Board of Education member Glen Schuster said he was impressed with the administration's thoroughness in this year's tenure evaluation process.

"It's a very careful consideration, so I'd like to thank (Superintendent William Stark), but I'd also like to very much thank our administrators who take the time and dedication to put down thoughtful evaluations."

Board member Nancy Barr said that although every tenure night is special, this particular class of tenured teachers is extra special.

"This is sort of the class I came in with," Barr said. "I remember seeing your resumes and I've followed your progress. I'm very proud of all of you."
