Port Chester Students Lobby For School-Based Health Centers' Funding

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Nine students from Port Chester Middle School, eight from Port Chester High School, one parent and staff members from Open Door Family Medical Centers traveled to Albany to advocate for the continued funding of school-based health centers.

Four students and one parent participated in a speak-out in which they shared stories that emphasized the significance of school-based health centers in their schools and their lives. Students elaborated on the medical issues they had and how their school-based health centers helped them cope with their illnesses.

Assemblyman Steve Otis took the team onto the floor of the State Assembly, where the students listened to a debate, and were recognized by the New York State Assembly.
