PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - Blind Brook Middle School in Rye Brook is hosting its 10th annual Chicken Noodle Soup Drive for the St. Peter's Church soup kitchen.
Students are encouraged to bring in cans of chicken noodle soup to help support the less fortunate in their community. The school's social studies department is running the food drive.
"The social studies department sponsors the drive to reinforce its teachings in civics, citizenship and government by encouraging students to give back to their community," said social studies teacher Jonathan Dakers.
Blind Brook has a close connection with St. Peter's Church, as high school students run the soup kitchen on Thursday nights throughout the school year.
The drive will run through March 20. More than 300 cans of soup have been collected so far. Students who bring in 10 cans of soup or more will be invited to attend a pizza party.
