Port Chester Student Musicians Earn Four Trophies

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – Members of Port Chester Middle School's many student music groups earned four trophies this month at a Pennsylvania competition featuring student bands from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The 27-member Show Choir, directed by Mark Zizolfo, took home a first-place trophy and earned a "superior" rating. The choir consists of seventh- and eighth-graders and features group and solo singing with an original choreographed stage routine.

Also receiving a first-place trophy and "superior" rating was the school's Select Band. In addition the band won the award for Best Overall Concert Band, which recognizes the highest score of the festival. The band is directed by music director Ken Kraut.

The Jazz Band took third place among eight jazz bands competing and received an "excellent" rating. The band, also directed by Kraut, consists of 24 students from the sixth to eighth grades.
