Mesha Iqbal was chosen by the national nonprofit group, and its partner, the Taco Bell Foundation, to appear on a four-story billboard in the heart of Times Square. The billboard will be unveiled Wednesday.
Get Schooled uses the power of media, technology and popular culture to inspire young people and their families to improve high school graduation rates and increase the number of graduates going to college.
Each of the Get Schooled applicants were asked to write about the ways they would use education to pursue their dreams.
Mesha’s entry read: "I've always been passionate about helping others. I understand how fortunate I am in the world and how essential it really is to give back to those who aren't.”
Mesha, treasurer of the One World Club, said the organization works to raise money for vaccines in developing countries.
Planning to major in biology in college, she said she hopes to became a pediatrician.
“I will use my skill to produce medicine and cures! I am a visionary and very optimistic!," Mesha wrote in her entry.
Each of the Get Schooled honorees also receives a $1,000 scholarship.
