School Board President James Dreves said the district will not lose any additional money from damage to roofs on district buildings, areas with stone work, or spoiled food.

“We had a lot of damage, and we took care of all that damage,” said Dreves.

“It was a pretty significant expense, but the good news is the New York Schools Insurance Reciprocal is going to pay us pretty much everything in damages we incurred other than the $5,000 deductible,” he said.

Assistant Superintendent for Business Maura Mcaward said in an email that the district received $114,401.22 in reimbursements out of an estimated $116,317.66 it submitted to NYSIR, minus a $5,000 deductible. That means the district will only be required to pay a total of $6,916.44.

The reimbursement covers the cost of an architect and engineer to assess the damage, tree work, employee overtime, heating, a ventilation and air conditioning a system, computer and equipment use at a pro-rated rate.

“It really sends a good message to us that we don’t have to outlay extra money because of Hurricane Sandy.”

Dreves announced the news at the school board’s meeting last week.
