PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - Michaela Mascolo, a Port Chester High School bowler, said receiving the 2012-13 Section 1 Triple Crown Award feels special.

“It’s just an absolute honor,” she said. The award evaluates a bowler’s high score in a game, overall in a series and average score through all games.

Mascolo was one of three students recognized by the Port Chester board of education Wednesday for achievements.

Jazmin Acosta was recognized for obtaining the highest tally in the long jump at the Section 1 Class A 2012-13 track and field championships.

In the classroom, Jonathan Hidalgo won the Top Builder Challenge for a car he made from pasta. He was able to take part in the project as part of PBS Kid’s Design Squad Nation, which encourages students to make their creative ideas real.

Hidalgo worked on the car in his studio art class. Board president James Dreves said the board is grateful for the opportunity to honor students' achievements.

“It’s really neat that we can bring them up front and give them the recognition that they deserve,” he said.
