Port Chester Passes 2013-14 School Budget

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Port Chester voters approved the 2013-14 school budget in Tuesday's vote and re-elected Carolee Brakewood to the Board of Education.

The budget was passed with 816 votes in favor and 417 votes against. Brakewood received 732 votes, while challenger James Carriere received 513 votes.

The approved budget for the 2013-14 school year is $85,194,914, a 4.76 percent increase over last year's $81.3 million budget. The tax levy will increase 2.83 percent. Among the additions in the school budget are security guards at the elementary schools, three teachers at the middle school and a math teacher at the high school.
