PORT CHESTER, N.Y. The Port Chester School District has announced that 11 students have been given All-County band honors and will be performing at Westchester County School Music Association's (WCSMA) All-County Band and Orchestra Concerts at SUNY Purchase on Saturday, March 10 and Sunday, March 11.
The district's honorees range from grades fourth to ninth and has representatives from King Street School, Port Chester Middle School and Port Chester High School, according to the district. Fourth grade trumpeter Molly Brakewood is one of the district's only fourth graders to ever be named to All-County
Molly's brother and sixth grade trumpeter William, alongside saxophonist Eli Taylor-Lemire, will join Molly in the Elementary All-County Band and were also named first chair for their respective instruments, the district said. District music director Ken Kraut praised Taylor-Lemire's accomplishment at Wednesday's district instrumental concert.
"A lot of people may not realize how hard it is to become first chair saxophonist because it's such a popular instrument nowadays," Kraut said.
The district also produced five participants in the Intermediate All-County Band including three eighth graders including clarinet player Danielle Winchester, baritone saxophonist Alfred DiLeo and trombonist Charles Simmons, the district said. Rounding out the group are ninth graders Emma Manos, clarinet, and John Montemurro, trombone.
Ninth graders Isabella Roca, Brooke Pietrafesa and Emmalie Tello were named to the prestigious All-County Orchestra, which is a cut above the All-County Band, according to the district.
The All-County Orchestra concert is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 10 and the All-County Band concert will be held at 11 a.m. the following day, Sunday March 11. Tickets are available at the SUNY Purchase box office. For information call 251-6200.
