At Port Chester Middle School on Thursday, two nationally-known speakers were invited to talk about their personal tragedies involving fatal car accidents.

Jacy Good was in a life-altering crash that killed her parents in 2008, and Tim Hollister's 17-year-old son, Reid, was killed in a crash in 2006. They will speak about their experiences from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Port Chester Middle School, 113 Bowman Ave.

Hollister has become a national authority and spokesperson for safer teen driving. After serving on a Connecticut state task force that overhauled the state’s teen driver laws, Tim launched “From Reid’s Dad,” a national blog for parents of teen drivers. Good and her husband, Steve, have appeared on numerous national television programs to talk about how a driver using a cellphone changed the course of their lives.

In Mamaroneck on Saturday, officials from Toyota are offering teens a chance to drive a "TeenDrive365" simulator and test how well (or poorly) they fare while using a cellphone and other common driving distractions. Saturday's free clinics begin at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at DCH Toyota City, 700 Waverly Ave., Mamaroneck.

Organizers suggest that parents and their teenage children sign up here to participant in one of Saturday's clinics, which often fill up fast.

Saturday's two-and-a-half-hour clinics also offer families a "beyond-basics" approach to road safety, including car care tips, safe driving coaching techniques and other practical tools straight from professional teen driving safety instructors.

Toyota's virtual-reality simulator allows people to see first-hand how distractions can impair their ability to drive safely.
