In presenting the commendations, Port Chester High School Principal Mitchell Combs expressed his pride in their accomplishment, gratitude for their hard work and hope for their continued success. The students will be honored at a future Board of Education meeting. The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. High school students enter the program by taking the Preliminary SAT and meeting certain entry requirements.

This year, commended students scored among the top 5 percent of all 1.5 million students who entered the 2015 competition, with selection based on a nationally applied selected index score that can vary from year to year.

“The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,”a spokesperson for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation commented.
