Port Chester H.S. Inducts Dozens Into National Honor Societies

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Post Chester High School has inducted more than 70 "outstanding" junior and senior students into three national honor societies, the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (the National High School Mathematics Honor Society) and the Science National Honor Society.

Superintendent of Schools Edward Kliszus, School Board President Robert Johnson and Port Chester High School Principal Mitchell Combs all spoke at the May 4 induction ceremony along with several others.

Several awards were given during the ceremony, including the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Medal, which was presented to student James Repaci. The award is given for outstanding academic achievement and carries with it a $25,000 per year scholarship.

A junior student, Emily Loiaconi, was presented the George Washington University Medal for maintaing the highest cumulative grade point average at the high school in math and science subjects.

All National Honor Society students have achieved a minimum grade point average of 85 percent and have demonstrated character, leadership and service. Inductees into Mu Alpha Theta also must have an 85 average in all three Regents level math classes.Members of the Science National Honor Society must have completed three years years of science at the Regents level or high with a combined average of at least 85 percent.

Inductees into the National Honor Society include Yanitza Acosta, Tinu Alex, Christopher Chino, Marysol Chu, Christina Chumpitazi, Robert Cordova, Ivette Flores, Colin Gillespie, John Gleason, Cameron Gutierrez, Larabe Iqbal, Anita Karas, Emily Loiaconi, Carol Magallon, Joel Millares, Elizabeth Montemurro, Jessica Mora, Marcela Oyervide, Karmen Pantoja, Stephanie Anne Perez, Kaylan Pinnix, Yajaira Ramos, James Repaci, Luis Rojas, Rebecca Salerno, Joel Abraham Sam, Adriana Siguenza, Emma Stracuzzi, Alex Torres, Lizveth Torres, Ricardo Vega, Yonely Vicente, Alicia Wilczewski, Fjolla Xhemajli, Armond Yusi and Diana Zagastizado.

Mu Alpha Theta inductees include Yanitza Acosta, Tinu Alex, Lucia Batista, Paola Campos, Marysol Chu, Robert Cordova, Martha Gonzalez, Cameron Gutierrez, Larabe Iqbal, Anita Karas, Emily Loiaconi, Stephanie Lojano, Ann Marie Loper, Joel Millares, Ishani Patel, Diana Pineda, James Repaci, Alexander Sandoval, Emma Stracuzzi, Sherlin Thomas and Ricardo Vega.

Science National Honor Society include Yanitza Acosta, Tinu Alex, Robert Cardova.
