Port Chester High School Seniors Named AP Scholars

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - Three current Port Chester High School seniors and nine Port Chester High School graduates earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional performance on AP Exams.

The nine graduates named are Jesus Bianco, Charles V. Brady, Jennifer Cacciola, Nancy P. Cervantes, Giovanni Del Cid, Jennifer Garcia, Daniel Mascolo, Melvin Veliz and Ana K. Villasenor.

2011 class valedictorian Brittany Abel was named AP Scholar with Distinction, receiving an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

The three current students are Christian Mora, Artur Srezejko, and Juan Guerra.

"It felt pretty good to be recognized," Srezejko said, "I spent a lot of time studying and it took a lot of hard work so it feels pretty good".

Mora, Srezejko, and Guerra credited mathematics chairperson and teacher Carlos Gomez, AP Chemistry teacher Alan Cramer, AP U.S. History teacher Steven Gibaldi, and mathematics teacher Alex Lepes as reasons for their success.

"The way Mr. Cramer devised and taught the curriculum was really excellent," Mora said.

"He was always willing to take you aside for extra help," Srezejko added, "You could tell his concern was truly authentic".

Guerra, who achieved AP Scholar with Honor for receiving an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more exams, singled out Mr. Lepes as being especially helpful.

"I never had him as a teacher," Guerra said, "But he would always help me after class if I needed it".

Among the colleges being considered by Guerra, Mora, and Srezjko are USC, NYU, Northeastern, Drexel, City College, and Boston College.
