PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - Port Chester High School Freshman Isabella Roca has been selected as a member of Westchester County's Jazz Ensemble and will perform with the group in the 22nd Annual Westchester County School Music Association's festival in Mamaroneck in mid-March.
Ensemble members are selected through an audition process that took place in January and Roca was one of only 17 musicians and four trumpeters participating in the prestigious group.
District's Music Director Ken Kraut praised Roca, who is also the 1st Trumpet in the All County orchestra, for her talent and commitment.
"This is only her third year playing trumpet, after starting on clarinet," Kraut said in a statement. "She is the epitome of someone who has found the perfect instrument for herself, as she has the most beautiful tone quality you could imagine from a student her age.
Kraut added that Roca has trumpet playing in her blood.
"She was inspired by her grandfather, Dr. Louis Roca, who was an accomplished trumpet player in the Port Chester Schools under legendary director Archie Jacobs," Kraut said.
WCSMA's Jazz Festival will be held at Mamaroneck High School on Friday, March 16 at 8 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door at the cost of $10.00 for adults. Admission is free for students.
