PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- The Port Chester Public Schools' Music Department is set to hold two district concerts in March for "Music in our Schools Month."

The district choral concert will take place at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 6, and the district instrumental concert will be held at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 13. Both concerts will take place at Port Chester Middle School’s Archie Jacobs Auditorium. Admission is free and the concerts are open to the public.

The 100-member Select Fifth-Grade Chorus will lead the choral concert. The chorus has members from Port Chester's four elementary schools and is directed by Kristen D’Avanzo, Kristin Fleming and Michael Johnson. The Port Chester Middle School choral groups, led by Mark Zizolfo, will follow. Port Chester High School’s Concert Choir, under the direction of Linda Penney, will round out the program.

The theme for the concert will be “Music Around the World.” Songs from Japan, Russia, Nigeria, Wales, Spain, Trinidad and Angola will highlight the concert. All of the groups will combine to sing the finale, “Turn the World Around,” from the West Indies, according to a district press release.

The district instrumental concert will feature several musical groups, including the Select Fifth-Grade Band, led by Michael Miceli and Anthony Sabia; the Middle School’s Sixth-Grade Band and the Seventh- and Eighth-Grade Band directed by Linda McDermott; and the Symphonic Band of Port Chester High School, led by Robert Vitti. School officials say the bands will perform "an eclectic mix of selections," including “Haydn’s Surprise,” “The Royal Tower,” “Flight of Eagles,” “Joyance” and Holst’s “First Suite in E-flat.”
