Port Chester Awards Tenure to 10 Teachers

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - The Board of Education for the Port Chester-Rye Union Free School district awarded tenure to 10 district educators on Thursday at the board's final meeting of the 2011-12 school year.

Half of the 10 teachers receiving tenure were from the district's elementary schools. Four of the five, Ivelisse Acevedo, Monica Barreto, Mayra Estrella and Yvette Vera-Pignato, currently teach at JFK Magnet School.

"I'm very proud of all of you and I thank you for everything you have done for your students, your community and your school," JFK Principal Lou Cuglietto said. "I could not be more proud of you."

The fifth elementary teacher approved for tenure was Lovely Washington from Edison School.

"We are extremely lucky to have this young lady. She has been a valuable asset to our school," Edison School Principal Ivan Tolentino said. "I'm honored to have you on our staff."

Representing Port Chester Middle School was English teacher Linda O'Connor, who was introduced by PCMS Principal Patrick Swift.

The remaining four teachers approved for tenure hail from Port Chester High School. PCHS Principal Mitchell Combs recommended high school teachers Joseph DeProssino, Christopher Kazim, Estrella Quinonez and Sara Sadoff.
