PORT CHESTER, N.Y. All week long, the Port Chester Middle School Auditorium has played host to the winter concerts for all four Port Chester elementary schools. Thursday's night belonged to the Edison school's third, fourth, and fifth graders.
On Monday, students from the King Street School graced the stage, the Park Street Elementary concert was on Tuesday, and a packed house was on hand for the JFK Magnet on Wednesday.
"These kids are the shining stars of Port Chester," Mayor Dennis Pilla said. "I've enjoyed coming to the concerts all week.
Ken Kraut, the middle school's music director, talked about what the concert means to the students.
"You can just hear the enthusiasm in their voices," Kraut said. "It really is a big thrill for them to come to the middle school and go up on that big stage.
Cynthia and Eliezer Quintana's 11-year-old son Michael was fortunate enough to climb the "big stage" twice, once in the Edison school choir and once as a member of the school's band.
"He started playing the trumpet this year," Cynthia said. We are very proud.
Cynthia also spoke at length about the job Edison School band director Anthony Sabia is doing with the children.
"If they have free time he'll pull them aside and practice with them," Cynthia said. "Michael is really learning a lot.
Kraut and the rest of the middle school staff would like to thank all the middle and high school students that volunteered their time and energy to the week's events.
