I would like to commend Dr. Tahira Chase, Superintendent of Schools for the Greenburgh School district and Tanya Johnson, director of education for the Lois Bronz Children's Center for a very innovative initiative. Last week I attended a book signing at the Theodore Young Community Center for a book written by children ages 8-12. The book "Journey of Heroes" can be purchased on Amazon and at Barnes & Nobel. The students (also known as authors) attend Greenburgh Central school district.

Over a period of six weeks, Journey of Heroes has become a reality. During that time the students created characters, plotted stories and developed narratives. Some stories have illustrations drawn by the authors. This is education at it's very best! The students are learning how to write, get published. They are marketing their book (book signing) and are interacting with the community. They are learning real life skills at a young age. Who knows? Maybe one day one or more of the authors will win a Pulitzer Prize!

Student authors are Ann Alphy, Kailani Ledesma, Anyla Wright, Niya Gray. Bryan Hernandez, Jaythan Perez, Christopher Hernandez, Melany Fajardo and Nayla Gray.

If you want to purchase a copy of the book and want the book autographed by the authors there will be a book signing table at the Greenburgh Town Board meeting on Wednesday evening, October 25th at 7:30 PM.
