The Junior Eagles camp only soars into the library once a week from Hurlbutt Elementary School for story time, games and a movie, but that's all it takes to get the kids hooked.
The 3- to 5-year-olds from the camp, run by Weston Parks and Recreation, scream with laughter and excitement at children's librarian "Miss Joy" Beckwith when she makes animal noises and shows animated expressions during story time.One of the stories of the day on Wednesday morning, "The Pig in the Pond," is about a pig that seeks refreshment in a pond, much to the dismay of the ducks and the other animals on the farm."It's been so hot, it's been nearly 100 degrees. That's why I picked this book," she told the 25 children that sat wide-eyed before her. "It's been so hot and the animals feel it, too." The children laughed and oinked along with Miss Joy and got the biggest kick at the end of the story when the farmer returned, took off his clothes and jumped in the pond himself.Another favorite activity was spinning the parachute as a group and trying to keep stuffed animals from falling off.Another favorite activity was spinning the parachute as a group.
