Port Chester Mayoral Candidates Square Off At League Of Women Voters' Forum

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – Port Chester residents can get a chance to meet the candidates for village mayor during a League of Women Voters forum on Monday, March 13.

Appearing at the 7 p.m. forum at the Port Chester Courthouse. 350 N. Main St. are Republican "Fritz" Falanka and Democrat Gregory K. Adams.

Among the expected topics of discussion are the Starwood/United Hospital project, repairing the Marina Bulkhead, the amnesty program, a proposal to pursue city status, code enforcement and the annual budget.

Falanka, 73, is a former village clerk and village manager. He was nominated by the Port Chester Republican Committee.

Adams, a former deputy mayor, was on the Village Board from 2007 to 2010. He was re-elected in 2013 and is still a trustee.

Longtime Mayor Dennis Pilla, has decided not to seek a fifth term.

A retired social worker for the county, Adams had also worked as a supervisor for the New York City Board of Education.

Adams is promising to hold the line on property tax increases and work to persuade Starwood to pay its “fair share of taxes” and to “proceed in a community friendly manner.”

Adams was referring to a plan by an affiliate of Starwood Capital Group to turn the former United Hospital site in Port Chester into a $450 million mixed-use development.
