Trump, Jr., then-campaign manager Paul Manafort, and adviser Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law, met with the Kremlin-connected lawyer after being told she had the information on Clinton and her dealings with Russia.
"This is the clearest example we have of the Trump campaign’s eagerness to solicit Russian government assistance in interfering with our elections. In light of this monumental revelation, Congress, now more than ever, must independently investigate; we simply can’t allow interference in our democracy," Lowey said.
Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney(D-Cold Spring) said what Trump, Jr. did may be illegal and was definitely wrong.
"I represent a lot of Republicans who don't think it's cute or funny to collaborate with Russians to influence an American presidential election, Maloney said. "All Americans should agree that Donald Trump, Jr. has been lying, and he clearly put his personal agenda before his country."
By having the meeting, Trump Jr. may have violated federal campaign laws for solicitation.
