County Executive Rob Astorino (R-Mount Pleasant) and his Democratic challenger Senator George Latimer (D-Rye) will be seeing a lot of each other this fall.
Three debates and three forums have been scheduled between the two as Astorino runs for a third term.
The first debate is set for Tuesday night from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., sponsored by the Business Council of Westchester at the Reckson Center in White Plains.
A forum will be held Wednesday night at 6 p.m., sponsored by the League of Conservation Voters at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law, 78 North Broadway in White Plains.
A forum will be held Monday, Oct. 23 at 8 p.m. at the Family Christian Center at 592 Main Street in New Rochelle, sponsored by the NAACP.
A forum will be held Tuesday, Oct. 24, 8:30 a.m. sponsored by the Westchester County Association.
A debate will be held Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Iona College Murphy Auditorium, at 715 North Ave. in New Rochelle, sponsored by the Journal News and Fios News 1.
A final debate will be held Thursday, Oct. 26 at 11:30 a.m. and be broadcast on News12.
A debate sponsored by the League of Women Voters on Oct. 30 at Mercy College was canceled after Astorino withdrew.
“This was to have been a program to engage first-time student voters,” states League President Marylou Green. “We regret the lost opportunity for these young people to participate in fair and open campaigns, and to hear and question candidates. “This cancellation has been a disappointing and unprecedented development."
William O'Reilly, a spokesman for the Astorino campaign, said they canceled because they wanted the debate to be held in Yonkers.
"We even offered to provide space," O'Reilly said. "Instead, we booked our final debate with News 12 to ensure the broadest coverage.
Latimer blasted Astorino for withdrawing from the debate.
"I debated my GOP challenger 13 times last year for a seat in the State Senate," Latimer said on Facebook. "If I had ducked out of any debate, you can bet I'd have heard it from the GOP chorus."
