Robert Alberty, 37, of Cortlandt, will join Hoehmann's staff on Jan. 2 with a $106,000 salary, down from Hoehmann's former chief of staff, Vincent Balascio, who earned $119,000, Hoehmann told the Daily Voice Friday.

"I’m delighted we were able to find someone of Robert Alberty's caliber to join our team in Clarkstown," Hoehmann said. "I'm confident he will help find savings after working with a budget 10 times that of Clarkstown's."

Besides managing the town's $143 million budget, Alberty will also run Hoehmann's office, handle constituent services, manage the town's multi-million dollar grant program and work with the media, Hoehmann said.

"This is a person who is used to working with a budget over a billion dollars," Hoehmann said. "I believe he will be a strong asset to our team."

Alberty worked for the county executive for the past eight years until Astorino lost his re-election bid for the county executive seat to Democratic State Sen. George Latimer.

Hoehmann also said that by hiring Alberty, he will save taxpayers money by cutting his own salary by two percent and saving the $13,000 difference from what Balascio was paid.
