The Westchester mother who admitted to throwing a newborn baby out of a window to her death two years ago is heading to prison.
Jennifer Berry of Yonkers has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and five years probation after pleading guilty in Bronx criminal court to a charge of first-degree manslaughter for killing her newborn infant by dropping her from a seventh-floor window in the Bronx on Sept. 29, 2015.
According to officials, Berry dropped the infant to her death from the Bronx building shortly after giving birth in a bathroom of an apartment she was temporarily staying at. The child’s body was later discovered in the courtyard of the building. The medical examiner said the child was alive at the time she was thrown out of the window. Multiple reports said that Berry had previously told her boyfriend that the child was aborted.
"A baby girl had barely come into the world when she died in a concrete courtyard," Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said in a statement. "The killing of an innocent baby by her mother is one of the most heinous crimes imaginable.”
