Three Rye High School Teens Charged With Hazing

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Westchester County Police arrested three Rye teens in connection with a hazing incident Friday and charged them each with hazing, assault and unlawful imprisonment, Commissioner George Longworth of the county public safety department announced Monday night.

Rye Police learned of the incident Friday night and conducted a joint investigation with county police.

The three teens – Max Meyerson, 16, Sean Pinson, 17, and Tristan Scragg, 17 – were arraigned Monday night in Rye City Court for the incident, which the statement said is apparently a ritual involving Rye High School juniors and rising freshman. The three suspects were released Monday.

According to Longworth's statement, the three teens, all juniors at Rye High School, forced several rising freshman into a car in front of the Rye Library and drove to the Marshlands Conservancy in Rye. There, the suspects used a large piece of wood to "paddle" two victims several times, one whom was treated at a hospital for his injuries. Both suffered bruising and other injuries to their buttocks and legs.

Each was charged with second-degree assault, a felony, first degree hazing and second-degree unlawful imprisonment, both misdemeanors.

Police will continue to investigate the incident and encourage anyone with information to contact police detectives at 1-877-220-3560. The county police also accept tips by text and email .  All information will be kept confidential.
