TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- Police are investigating an armed robbery that took place Friday around 10:20 a.m. at a Wireless Voice Store at 15 North Broadway in Tarrytown, said Lt. John Barbelet.
According to Barbelet, two men walked into the store and approached a lone employee with a gun and began taking merchandise, Barbelet said.
The two men, who are known to police, got away with numerous items, before fleeing the area, he added.
The robbery was originally reported to have taken place at a Verizon store, but David Weissmann, Public Relations manager for Verizon, said the Wireless Voice Store, is an authorized retailer of their products, not a Verizon store.
Tarrytown police, along with the Westchester County Sheriff's Office, Irvington Police and Sleepy Hollow Police, are actively search searching for the two men, Barbelet said.
Following the robbery, which took place near two schools, police notified officials with the Tarrytown Union Free School District and both Sleepy Hollow Middle/High School and the John Paulding School were temporarily placed in a "lockout.".
"The Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown Police informed us that there was never any danger posed to our schools and that it was safe to return to our normal activities.that the school was on a lockout while police investigated the robbery," the district said on its website.
Barbelet said they hope to have an update on the investigation within the next couple of hours.
