Mazzone’s career began in 1995 as an officer with the Town of Saugerties Police Department, before he transferred to the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office and Ulster Police Department. In May of 1998, Mazzone became a New York State Police trooper, initially assigned to Troop F, which includes Greene, Orange, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster counties.

After joining the state police force, Mazzone worked his way through the ranks, becoming a sergeant in 2004, where he was also appointed the Bureau of Criminal Investigation as an investigator out of the State Police barracks in Liberty.

In 2007, Mazzone was promoted to lieutenant and assigned to the State Police Headquarters Traffic Services in Albany before transferring to the Professional Standards Bureau.  Three years later, Mazzone transferred to Troop T Headquarters in Albany and later returned to Troop F in Middletown as a Bureau of Criminal Investigation lieutenant in 2012.

The following year, Mazzone was promoted to captain, where he went on to serve as the Zone Commander for the southern portion of the New York State Thruway while working out of Troop T in Tarrytown. Two years ago, Mazzone returned to Troop F as the acting Zone Commander for Orange and Rockland counties.

Mazzone’s predecessor, Major Robert Gregory, has been promoted by New York State Police Superintendent George Beach II, to the rank of Staff Inspector, and he has been assigned to the Professional Standards Bureau in Hopewell Junction.
